NFL: What’s With The Bogus Narratives?

NFL Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys

The NFL is always full of speculation and overanalysis but the playoffs are always a different beast. There are always the stories to pump up the fanbases still in it, but then there’s the opposing side for those that lose in the playoffs. Most of the time these are puff pieces pushing stats, the other is just a perfect example of speculation for the sake of ratings. Usually, the latter is the most biased nonsense often debated on the likes of ESPN. The biggest one this year was after the Dallas Cowboys’ loss this year.

I’m not the biggest Cowboys fan, but you can tell how slanted toward controversial narratives for the sake of ratings these networks are. The first things that came out after the Dallas Cowboys lost this offseason were “Dak Prescott blew the game” and “should Mike McCarthy be fired after the Cowboys’ loss?”. All of these are valid questions but it’s just there to fire up the Cowboys fan base. Since the Cowboys are one of the most popular teams in the NFL with a huge fanbase they’re looked at under a microscope.

But the Buffalo Bills lost their divisional-round matchup as well. Where are all the questions about Sean McDermott being fired? Why isn’t the narrative about how Josh Allen blew the game for the Bills having played equally as bad? Why do the Dallas Cowboys need to start jettisoning players and coaches but the Buffalo Bills don’t? Can’t teams just lose to better teams especially come the playoffs? Yes, Dak Prescott turned the ball over twice in a playoff game… against the #1 defense in the league this year. Did we not see the Bills lose to the better team? Just because they’re “America’s Team” we have to go through this nonsense.

It still baffles me that networks run with these weak NFL takes. Seven teams in each conference make the playoffs every year for a total of 14 and only 1 wins the Super Bowl. If we fired every head coach or quarterback who didn’t quite get the job done every year you’d eventually run out of coaches and QBs who can be effective in the NFL. I enjoy a Cowboys loss as much as the next guy, but come on! If you’re going to call one out, call them all out the same way. Otherwise, give the guy a break.
