Nik Stauskas Has Earned A Contract With The Cleveland Cavaliers

Nik Stauskas deserves a role on the Cleveland Cavaliers. He’s an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He’ll likely seek out a contract instead and test the market. If that’s the case, the Cavs need to do whatever they can to keep him.

It’s not really doing much to sign a guy who’s averaging 5.7 points as a Cavalier. But, take into account how cheap the Cavs will get him for on the open market. He’s an 8th or 9th man off the bench. Signing Stauskas to a 2-year deal for $5 million is a bargain for the Cavs.

You can’t expect Stauskas to ever be a major factor for the Cavaliers. He does have the ability to knock them down the 3-point shot. That’s been his main role with Cleveland since he’s been on the roster. Stauskas is shooting 2.8 three-point shots per game. Although, he’s a valuable asset for the future.

What many don’t realize about Stauskas, he’s only 25. There’s still room for him to be groomed into a consistent shooter. It might not be at a Steph Curry level, but it might be at a Seth Curry level. That’s what the Cleveland Cavaliers need to bank on with the former University of Michigan standout.

On the Cavs, Stauskas has been receiving around 15 minutes per game. That’s around what he’s been getting from the other organizations he has played for. The 76ers played Stauskas 25.4 minutes a game. He only averaged 8.7 points per game but shot just over 4 three’s and 3.1 two-point shots in Philly.

Nik Stauskas isn’t afraid to shoot. If he can find his touch with the Cavs, he’s good for 9 or 10 points a contest. That’s worthy of a $2.5 million per year contract. There are a lot of worse ways you can spend that money if you’re the Cleveland Cavaliers.

There will need to be a lot of decisions made by Cavs General Manager, Koby Altman, over the off-season. Addressing Nik Stauskas won’t be the most pressing concern, but is one that needs to be dealt with. He’s a good fit in Cleveland. If Stauskas can find his shot, he’s a great piece for a young Cavaliers roster.
