NJPW: Chris Jericho’s Wrestle Kingdom 14’s opponent revealed
We are a few months away from the biggest event in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Wrestle Kingdom is the NJPW’s version of WWE’s WrestleMania. Over the years, we have had great matches happen at Wrestle Kingdom. Some of them include Prince Devitt vs. Low Ki vs. Kota Ibushi at Wrestle Kingdom 7, Kushida vs. Hiromu Takahashi vs. Will Opsrey vs. Marty Scrull at Wrestle Kingdom 12, Kenny Omega vs. Chris Jericho at Wrestle Kingdom 12, and AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura at Wrestle Kingdom 10 are some of the most memorable matches we have seen at Wrestle Kingdom.
Being that we are still a few months away, the matches for Wrestle Kingdom 14 will start to be coming out soon. As of now we know that the G1 Climax winner Kota Ibushi will go one on one with the IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada. In addition, we will also see Jushin Thunder Liger have his retirement match. The Liger match will happen on night 2. It seems that we may have our semi main event match and it promises not to be a down fall. According to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Chris Jericho is set to take on Hiroshi Tanahashi at the big event. There are only three AEW superstars who are allowed to work in Japan as they work for AEW. They are Kenny Omega, Jon Moxley, and curreent AEW champion Chris Jericho. It’s worth noting that NJPW and AEW do not have a working partnership.
This is worth mentioning because if Jericho still holds the belt by that time, it will be interesting to see if he wears it to the ring. In addition, would the NJPW announcers mention it at all. If he is still the AEW Champion, it would look bad to see him lose to Tanahashi.
