NWA Powerrr: Making the wrestling fans more opportunites to watch
if your a fan of wrestling, then your aware that the big talk for most of 2019 is about WWE and All Elite Wrestling, or also known as AEW. They are the top two promotions that have been garnering most of the talk. While AEW and WWE are the front runners, there’s another promotion that has been around rthat seems to be getting little talk. No, its not on another cable channel.. This promotion can be seen on either Youtube or Facebook. I’m talking about the revival of the NWA.
When the NWA first came up, it became home to several of the top wrestlers in the industry. Some of the more notable ones to come through the NWA were Terry Funk, Dusty Rhodes, Sting, Harley Race, Rick Rude, and Ric Flair to name just a few. This promotion would end up being around from the mid 1940’s to the late 1980’s. When the doors were closed, no wrestling fans expected to see the NWA back in operations. Then enter Smashing Pumpkin lead singer Billy Corgin. He grew up a wrestling fan and made his name within the wrestling world during the ECW days. On an episode of ECW, he hit Lou E. Dangerously over the head with a guitar. Years later he would open up a wrestling promotion in the Chicago area. However, this wouldn’t be the end of Corgin in the larger promotions. In 2016, he joined Impact Wrestling and then left in November of 2016. In 2017, he would end up buying and becoming owner of the NWA. He would end up joining forces with Dave LaGana who worked for years in WWE.
In it’s early days, they had a working relationship with Ring of Honor. They ended up breaking that off to focus on building their own TV show. In October of 2019, we saw the first episode of NWA Powerrr. Over the last several weeks, we would see some familar names. Some of them are Nick Aldis, James Storm, Eli Drake, Marti Belle, and many others. While some of them were familiar, there have been others who we are getting use to now.
If you have not had a chance, I highly recomend watching it for several reasons. It’s much different watching studio wrestling, than watching wrestling in a 3,000 , 5,000, or 10,000 seat arena. In addition, the writing for this show is fantastic. WWE has gone more of the route of being a soap opera with Raw, you can not same the same thing about NWA. They make everything seem important. When you watch an episode, you want to see what happens next. Finally, you won’t get bored at all. In recent memory, I have been feeling a disconnect with the WWE. When it comes to the NWA, you are glued to whatever your are using to watch it.
NWA Powerrr airs every Tuesday night at 6:05 pm on the NWA’s Youtube page and Facebook page.
