NXT: Teams for War Games Announced at Latest Tapings
At the tapings tonight, NXT General Manager William Regal announced who would be involved with War Games match. In case you didn’t know, War Games was used mostly in NWA and WCW for the 1980’s and 1990’s. The legend has it that Dusty Rhodes was the one who came up with the concept. The way this match works out is you have three teams of three. One person from each team goes into the double steel cage. The match doesn’t begin until all nine guys are in the ring.
**SPOILERS AHEAD***
We saw the return of War Games last year. At the WWE’s revival of War Games, we saw Sanity vs. Authors of Pain with Rodrick Strong vs. Undisputed Era. It was a great match. The feeling heading into the 2nd WWE War Games was that we would get Ricochet with War Raiders to take on Undisputed Era and Pete Dunne, Oney Lorcan, and Danny Burch. It doesn’t seem that will be the case anymore. As announced at the tapings tonight, we will see Undisputed Era (Rodrick Strong, Adam Cole, Kyle O’ Reilly, and Bobby Fish) take on Pete Dunne, Ricochet, and War Raiders.
I know War Games is on Survivor Series weekend, but that doesn’t mean you need to have NXT do their own. By doing a 4-on-4 match, you are essentially not having War Games. The booking I mentioned before is the one I’m sticking with as it makes the most sense. All nine of those guys have a built-in storyline that would make for great TV. I hope they stick to the double ring and steel cage. The only positive I can see to having it be a four-on-four match is that there is more room for the guys to work in. Ricochet is known for being a high flyer.
Personally, I am not a fan of the booking decision because it comes off as being lazy.
