NXT: What Do You Do With Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa?
At Takeover on Saturday, Tommaso Ciampa defeated Johnny Gargano to keep his NXT title. This was their third meet in their epic feud, so the feeling is that it will be their blow off match for now. The WWE now has an interesting dilemma on their hands. Where do you now go with arguably your two most popular NXT superstars?
For starters, let us look at Tommaso Ciampa. He comes as a fighting champion who is willing to take any measures necessary to keep his belt. You would have to figure that Aleister Black is next in line when he returns from his groin injury. As I mentioned on the Comeback Wrestling Show, Ciampa should go on a bit of run here. I could see Ciampa have matches with Keith Lee, Matt Riddle, and others. Where this should all lead to is another Ciampa/Gargano match at the Takeover before WrestleMania 35. It would be at that point where Johnny Gargano gets his Daniel Bryan moment by overcoming his biggest enemy on NXT’s biggest stage.
On the other hand, you can have Johnny Gargano go on a “redemption” tour. You can have WWE tell Gargano that he needs to start at the bottom again. This would cause him to have to go up against guys like Kona Reeves, Cezar Bononi, Danny Burch, Fabian Aichner, and others. This would be due to General Manager William Regal telling Gargano that he needs to prove himself again to get another shot at Ciampa.
In these three matches, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa have shown that if you have the right stars and get booked the right way, you can create magic. It seemed that these guys told a great story and one that the NXT crowd got behind big time. I highly suspect that these guys will cross paths more times down the road.
