Oakland Raiders: home for the 2019 season in an interesting city
The Oakland Raiders have called Oakland, California home since they returned in 1995. They did call Oakland home from 1960-1981. However, it seems that now they will be looking for a new area to play in. Many people know that they are set to play in Las Vegas in 2020. While the stadium is built-in Las Vegas, the Raiders needed to look for a layover place to play their 2019 season. There was some thought that it could possibly be Oakland. However, the people who run the Oakland Coliseum want nothing to do with the Raiders. However, there’s now a new site for the Raiders to play in 2019.
According to Raj Mathai, the Oakland Raiders will be playing their games at Oracle Park, home of the San Francisco Giants. This would be great for fans of the Oakland Raiders for one major reason, it’s not a far commute. When the New York Islanders went from Uniondale, New York to Brooklyn, New York; the commute was a big problem. This was for people in Suffolk County who now needed upwards of two hours of traveling to the Barclay’s Center In Brooklyn, New York. The distance between Oakland and San Francisco is only 12 miles. However, the move to San Francisco can hinder on the decision of the San Francisco 49ers.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapport, the 49ers and the NFL still need to approve of this. As of this writing, that approval hasn’t happened yet. If you look at the landscape of the NFL, there are only two teams who play close to each other is the New York Jets and New York Giants. They play in the same stadium. The only thing that the NFL could disprove with this move is that it could cause a major traffic problem in that area. However, I don’t find that to happen likely because the Raiders don’t have a known plan b for a place to play in 2019. In addition, they need to announce this sooner rather than later for a major reason.
The 2019 NFL season is set to be announced soon. They can’t announce it yet because the home of the Raiders is up in the air. But if this becomes official, then schedules should be out soon.
