Philadelphia 76ers Are Poised For Best Offense In 2020

Philadelphia 76ers

During the offseason, the Philadelphia 76ers managed to find Christmas early. For starters, they were able to rid themselves of Jimmy Butler and while snagging up-and-coming SG Josh Richardson in the process.

But did they do enough to place themselves in contention for a Championship in 2020? According to ClutchPoints, the 76ers are one of the favorites and it will be due to their offense.

Brett Brown has taken criticism for his offensive scheme but finishing as a top offense the last two seasons with limited weapons speaks volumes. The 76ers are too strong in the paint with Horford (13.6 points), Embiid (27.5), and Harris (18.2). In the backcourt, the 76ers  are solid with the potential to be great with Simmons (16.9) and Richardson (16.6). If Richardson and Harris can knock down their three-point attempts consistently, no one will rank higher than Philadelphia in terms of offense.

The 76ers were no slouches on the offensive side of the court last season but this year, they will be more diverse. While they will take a hit in three-point percentage with Butler and J.J. Redick gone, that will give players like Richarson, Tobias Harris, Horford, and even Joel Embiid more opportunities to shine.

With teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, and Portland Trail Blazers expected to put up points, the Philadelphia 76ers still have a slight advantage over them. The Rockets will mainly consist of two players, Russell Westbrook and James Harden. The Blazers will rely on CJ McCollum and Damian Lillard. The Lakers will look to LeBron James and Anthony Davis while the 76ers, will have five players who can average 15 points on a nightly basis.

Trying to defend this new-look team will cause nightmares for opponents. If Simmons can do his job and improve at getting the ball to his perimeter players in their sweet spots, Brown’s offense will be like clockwork. If Embiid has no trouble kicking out of the double team, expect a Warriors-like approach to the 2019-20 season.
