Philadelphia Eagles: Dolphins Loss Is All On Doug Pederson
This is the NFL where any weekend, something weird can happen. This past Sunday in Miami, the Philadelphia Eagles went into their matchup with the Miami Dolphins and got manhandled by a 2-9 team. Losing a close game was not bad but losing to a team fighting for the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, that’s unacceptable. Head coach Doug Pederson said to put the blame on him, and he’s more than right.
I’m disgusted, I’m mad, I’m angry and I’m probably more so mad at myself,” he said. “… Our discipline, our consistency, the lack of that that showed up in this football game, that’s on me. That’s on me. And that’s why I’m disappointed. I felt like and I think most people felt like we were the better football team.
That’s a good leader in terms of words but this has been a problem for the Eagles even during their Super Bowl run. Something has to give. It’s no secret that the team clearly took the Dolphins as a joke. I mean, let’s keep it all the way real here. Even as a fan, I saw their schedule and circled this down as a win. It didn’t matter if it was a blowout or not. The Eagles needed this game.
Sitting just one game back of the division-leading Dallas Cowboys, this was the game they were to begin to make their move. Their last remaining games on the schedule should be considered cupcake games. But it all went wrong. The defense forgot how to tackle, stop the run, hell, they forgot how to play defense. According to Pederson, it was everything they forgot how to do.
Having watched [the tape] again this morning, it’s not who we are, it’s not who I am as a coach, it’s not how we teach things,” he said. “It starts with me, and I have to fix things this week heading into the Giants game.
Now the Philadelphia Eagles must find a remedy. Since Pederson has no plans to make changes to the coaching staff or to the roster, he must find a way to get his team back on track before it’s too late. Yes, the blame can be placed on him, but now Pederson must find a way to become a better leader so he can catch the praise.
