Philadelphia Flyers: Next 5 Games Is The Perfect Time To Make Up Points In Standings
Don’t look now, but the Philadelphia Flyers could be heading upwards in the Metropolitan standings by the end of their next 5 games. With Monday off, the Flyers will begin their stretch of very winnable games Tuesday night as they take on the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Flyers are currently sitting 6th in the division with 11 points. That leaves them 8 points behind division leader Washington Capitals. But they’re coming.
The Pens are 7-5 which gives them a three-point cushion over Philly. If the Flyers can handle business against the Pens, they could very easily leapfrog the Columbus Blue Jackets. After the Pens, the Flyers will head up to New Jersey to take on the Devils who sit at 2-5-2 (6 points). This is a game the Flyers cannot afford to take lightly. A win here and that’s a quick 4-point jump up the standings.
Following their games against the New Jersey Devils, the Flyers will embark on a three-game homestand that will have them faceoff against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Carolina Hurricanes, and the Montreal Canadiens. Each of those three teams all have winning records and will test the Flyers’ will. However, with the Flyers riding-high off of a nice streak to end the month of October, this could be an extension of something special here.
Even with a loss against one of these teams, that’s still a possibly 8-point jump in the standings. Although the season is young, the Flyers must take their points how and whenever.
With Travis Konecny leading the way with 13 points on the offensive end and hot Goalie Brian Elliott sitting at 3-1 on the young season, the Flyers can more than handle themselves against the top teams. In the next 5 games, the Flyers have a chance to let the rest of the NHL know they’re here to play for keeps.
