Philadelphia Phillies Can’t Afford To Miss The Playoffs This Season

The Philadelphia Phillies are on the verge of putting their franchise back on the map this season after being locked in the basement for five straight years. However, times are changing and with the Phillies leading the tough NL East division, this is their time to make a move.

This offseason, the team decided it was done watching organizations like the New York Yankees, Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs, and Los Angeles Dodgers make splashes. So, the Phillies went and make a few big moves with the additions of Carlos Santana and Jake Arrieta. While these additions were viewed as a possible stepping stone for 2019, the Phillies have played excellent ball and find themselves in the thick of things in the National League.

But before the rejoicing can begin, the Philadelphia Phillies must know that this opportunity can’t be squandered.

While they have managed to turn heads, those same players and GMs are waiting to see if they will crumble under the pressure. The Phillies are not the experienced team like the Washington Nationals, Yankees, Dodgers or Cubs. They are basically made up of a bunch of young players who could just be riding a wave of emotion or they have finally hit their stride. What a postseason appearance will do for this team is make them that much visible to the naked eye.

Are The Philadelphia Phillies The Real Deal?

A playoff berth and the Phillies will become one of the hottest free agent destinations in MLB for 2019. However, missing out on it entirely, and those players will see a young team not ready to make that next step. To some, the Phillies may be playing over their heads but if they can prove they are the real deal, then this could be a dynasty in the making.

The talent is there, the coaching staff is equipped, it’s just a matter of staying focus and doing what they have done over the course of the season. If they can get in, the sky is the limit for the Philadelphia Phillies. Once the playoffs start, everyone goes to 0-0. There should be no silver-lining or moral victories this year. It’s win or suffer the consequences.
