Power Book II: Ghost: Lauren Is Dead But Ghost Is Still Alive?
Season 2 of Power Book II: Ghost has been full of twists and turns to say the least. But what went down in Episode 9 this past Sunday, set the bar higher than any other scene we may have witnessed in the Power Universe.
The scene began with Tariq entering his classroom to find a very dead professor Jabari. From there, old characters started popping up from Proctor, Kanan, Lakeisha, and even his twin sister Raina. What made these characters stand out is that these are the characters that Tariq himself was responsible for, for meeting their demise. But just as Tariq was set to exit the class, in walked Lauren.

Her entrance seemed innocent enough but what was Lauren doing in a nightmare with all dead people? For most fans, it was just a glitz in the matrix so to speak. But later in the episode, it all came together. Lauren was there because Lauren would later die. Even though we never saw Effie kill Lauren at the end of the episode, her presence in Tariq’s nightmare in the beginning now confirms that she is indeed dead.
While that may be a crushing blow to fans, the gem in all of this is the presence or non-presence of Ghost.
Every since Tariq supposedly killed Ghost in the original Power, fans have wondered if the wool was being pulled over our eyes? No one actually saw a dead body. There have been rumors that Ghost is still alive and this episode all but proved this theory to be true. Well, maybe we’re all holding on to a pipe dream but the writers keep dropping clues that Ghost may still be around.
While talking to Lauren in the nightmare a phone rang. On the screen, it said Dad. For some reason, Tariq was hesitant to accept the call. But right before he did, he woke up from his ghostly nightmare. But what did all this mean for those fans still clinging to the idea that Ghost is still alive? It means plenty.
While Tariq saw the people he was responsible for, his father should have been the main one. But as it turns out, Ghost never made an appearance with the rest of the characters nor did Tariq actually speak to him. So, is Ghost really dead? If we’re going by the storyline that the nightmare suggested, then no.
Lauren’s presence in the nightmare proves her death. However, no ghost for Ghost proved to be just as important.
