Power: What Was The Point Of Taking Liliana Away From Tommy?
In 2014, Starz introduced the masses to a hit TV show titled Power. While fans of The Wire were on the edge of their seats waiting for the next urban crime thriller, Power provided fans the same closeness in characters with Ghost and Tommy that The Wire did with Avon and Stringer. Well, with Power: Book IV, there was a new partnership that no one saw coming and it had a good chance to be ranked up there with Ghost and Tommy.
Liliana was not a new face to Power fans. She was in the original but this time, she and Tommy were on the same team. What made this paring so remarkable, was that they played off of each other once they came to an understanding of sorts. For Ghost and Tommy, there was always a bit of jealousy there as Tommy wanted more while Ghost wanted less. But through it all, they were still brothers. The duo had their up and down moments, but brothers they were.
With Liliana, it began as just business but grew to something more. Tommy and Liliana were more like the brother and sister that were always fighting in the house but outside, they were a tight pair.

While Tommy had dreams of taking over Chicago, Liliana wanted the same. Despite her troubled past, she was willing to follow Tommy’s shadow wherever he went. She was a loyal soldier and turned out to be a loyal friend till the end. This is exactly what Tommy needed after the events in NYC.
Even after finding out about his brother and nephew, the Tommy and Liliana pair still took billing on Power. The banter back and forth gave Power: Force some comedy relief but the lingering question of “what if” will still ring in viewer’s heads. Why didn’t the writers give this paring time to grow the same way there did Ghost and Tommy or even Tariq and Braden? What was the point of killing Liliana off?
Tommy, despite having Ghost by his side was still a bit of a loner. It’s safe to say that he was unlucky in the love department. He had no kids of his own. He and his mother were not the best mother and son duo. Tommy, honestly was a man on his own. So, giving him Liliana to replace what he had with Ghost was a great decision. They were great partners and building an even stronger friendship. Now that she’s gone, we will possibly get the same cold Tommy that he was in the original series, and that’s a huge mistake.
Tommy and JP don’t have that connection yet. Tommy and Diamond are trying but Diamond’s head and heart are not in it all the way. Who can Tommy turn to when he needs to be roped in? That’s why Liliana was the perfect sidekick. Although he and Ghost would argue, there were times when Tommy had to reel Ghost back to reality. That’s exactly what Liliana was to Tommy.
