Project Rock Gear: The Perfect Workout Apparel
When it comes to apparel these days the best advice you can get is to stay away from celebrity-endorsed products. More often than not you end up with overpriced clothing that is no better than the everyday brands, but it still costs a little bit more. After all, they’ve got to pay the star promoting them, right? But the same can’t be said of Under Armour’s Project Rock line.
There are two main factors that pushed me to make the purchase. Number 1, it was made by Under Armour and I had a great experience with their brand before. From activewear to casual clothes, there was quality and comfort. Compared to a few other name brands, a lot of the apparel was either close in price or at times less expensive without sacrificing quality. The second was the man tied to the line, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
As a long-time wrestling fan, one of the things I’ve always appreciated about The Rock is his love and respect of the fans. Every WWF/WWE event he put on a show to remember. His acting career might have started off a little rocky, but he hit his stride in some of the biggest blockbusters today. What I respected about him doing the family-friendly movies while he grew up as an actor, was him putting himself out there if it meant giving people a show. The self-proclaimed People’s Champ has always done right by his fans. He doesn’t seem like the type to slap his name on a cheap product if it’s not something he believes fans will love. So when he and Under Armour teamed up for the Project Rock lineup, naturally I was curious and had to buy some.

The Verdict? I can’t work out in anything else now. From sweats to shorts, to workout hoodies, and even the sneakers there’s a certain degree of comfort that has to accompany fitness. After all, we’re putting our bodies through hell. You don’t need to add discomfort to it. There’s a certain quality to all the apparel that often costs you a few extra bucks with fitness/sports brands, but the Project Rock lineup isn’t overpriced. That’s not to say you can’t find a less expensive option out there with a Walmart or Target brand but those fall into that “you get what you pay for” circle you’d try to avoid with gym apparel.
Take for instance the sneakers. For $100 bucks (99.99+) I ended up with one of the more comfortable pairs of shoes I’ve owned. When it comes to athletic shoes, support is key. How the sole supports your foot while active makes all the difference. Yes, you can go out on buy a pair of Nike’s cheaper or on clearance but in those instances, you’re usually sacrificing a thicker sole that wears out quicker over time. To find a shoe comparable in the Nike brand, you’re looking at the $125-$150 range. There are some that go up to that $150 range for the Under Armour too, but I’ve yet to compare those to another brand.

The best part is that the Project Rock line goes beyond just gym apparel. There’s been a few Veteran’s Day items in their lineup that are some of the softest and warmer sweats I’ve owned, hoodies or pants. While they do carry a $70 price tag, it’s still cheaper than buying team apparel at stadium prices. Even if you cut the licensed apparel out, you’d still be middle of the road when comparing other brands. Some would be cheaper and sacrifice quality. Others would be more expensive but offer nothing but brand recognition.
