Raising Kanan: We’re All Just Waiting For Ghost And Tommy
The news was announced in the summer of 2022 that there will be a Season 3 of the hit show Raising Kanan. Even with the issues surrounding 50 Cent and the Starz Network, the show will go on. However, for viewers, the news is still not the major announcement we all want. While the characters have been great, we’re just waiting for the introduction of the younger Tommy and Ghost. How long must we wait?
The first two seasons of the show have introduced Power fans to a younger Kanan and Jukebox. While Kanan was received as the bad guy in the original series and the same goes for Juke, having the Raquel, Lou, Marvin, and Unique storylines lessened the blow of not having Tommy and Ghost, for now. But as the story goes deeper into the life of young Kanan, fans are getting antsy.
While most shows have a shelf life of 5-6 seasons, it’s fair game that it’s taking this long to showcase two of the original Power members. But with the contract issues going on, will the show end before we get a chance to see them?
The importance of having these two on Raising Kanan is to fully understand why Kanan carried so much hatred towards Ghost. We know that Ghost set him up which landed him in prison but we also know that there is more to this story. Like what role did Tasha play in all of this?
To be honest, a show centered on the origins of Tommy and Ghost may have been better but we understand the politics of it all. 50 is calling some of the shots here. But still, it’s time they make their appearance. According to the timeline, the trio got together around 1996. And since Raising Kanan so far has taken place between 1991-93, we still have a ways to go unless we get a time jump of sorts.
If we’re being honest here, the reason why a time jump can’t happen in Season 3 is due to the way Season 2 ended. There is still so much left to discover about each character. They can’t fast forward and just ignore what happened between Raq and the Italians. What about the investigation between Detective Burke and Howard? There is also the possibility of a Unique and Raq romance and what’s going to happen to Famous? There are still major storylines to unfold here.
The earliest we should see Tommy and Ghost should be Season 4 and by that time, the shift in characters should be underway. What I mean by that is, Kanan is beginning to get the edge that made him so menacing in the original Power. Juke has her demons and we’re starting to understand what made her so cold. But the bigger question is; were Raq, Marvin, Lou, Unique, and Howard around when Tommy, Ghost, and Kanan formed their crew?
For the viewers’ sake, we hope that everything gets worked out and we’re provided the storyline that we’re all waiting for.
