For a majority of 2019 and apart of 2020, it seemed that Marty Scrull was the top free agent in the wrestling world.  His original ROH contract expired in November. However, he did end up working the Final Battle pay-per-view. He ended up making an appearance at NWA: Into the Fire to confront Nick Aldis. There was speculation that both WWE and AEW were very interested in him. However late Sunday night, we found out the future of Marty Scrull.

PWInsider was the first one to report, but it seems that Marty Scrull has resigned with Ring of Honor. According to Mike Johnson, Ring of Honor held a meeting backstage at the Concord, North Carolina show to announce that Marty Scrull is also the lead booker. There’s been no public announcement made yet. This move is surprising, but not a shocker. It’s not a shocker because you need to look at this from the point of view of Ring of Honor. At the end of 2019, they lost Cody, the Young Bucks, Hangman Page, Kenny Omega, and SCU. With a majority of the top guys out, Ring of Honor didn’t want to lose Marty Scrull as well.

It’s surprising because I figured we would have seen Marty Scrull bolt from Ring of Honor once he was not under contract. However, when you look at the deal; Marty Scrull ended up becoming the big winner. In addition to resigning with ROH and becoming the lead booker, he isn’t exclusive to them. From what is being reported, he would still be allowed to work with other promotions like NWA. It even seems that the door for AEW isn’t entirely closed. Maybe it will be Marty who will help bring Ring of Honor back to life.

2020 will be an interesting year for Ring of Honor and the Villan, Marty Scrull.
