Ring of Honor: Matt Taven has not been a good champion
Everyone always talks about AEW and WWE. However, there are other promotions out there that seem to be falling under the rug. It seems that one of the companies greatly affected by AEW is Ring of Honor. Since Cody Rhodes, Hangman Adam Page, Kenny Omega, and the Young Bucks left ROH; they are having tough times selling out venues. While many people have used the Elite leaving ROH as an excuse to why ROH hasn’t been doing well lately, I want to present another reason.
As of this writing, Matt Taven is your Ring of Honor champion. He won it in a triple threat ladder match at the G1 Supercard at Madison Square Garden back in April. He was able to defeat both Marty Scrull and Jay Lethal. In my humble opinion, Ring of Honor should never of put the belt on Taven. As we heard, Rush is set to take on Taven for the Ring of Honor title at Death Before Dishonor in a couple of weeks. If the plan is to have Rush take the belt off of Taven, then putting the belt on him like they did was foolish. I’m not taking anything away from his talent. For some reason, I don’t feel it has clicked with him being at the top of the company. At least if you had Marty there, people would be interested.
If you look at all the other promotions top guys, they all share something in common. Okada, Fatu, Jericho, Kofi Kingston, and Seth Rollins is that they all click in one way or another. Right now, I don’t see Taven being put into that area. What makes things seem odd with Taven being champ is that Scrull’s contract ends after Taven. Due to how over Rush is with Ring of Honor, I would be shocked if Rush doesn’t walk out of Death before Dishonor on September 27th as your new ROH champion.
