As AEW and NXT are set to go to battle in October on Wednesday nights, both brands are watching who becomes a free agent closely. While no one is a free agent right now, we will be seeing two of the bigger stars from Ring of Honor become free agents this fall. Once these guys hit the free agency market, fans should expect both AEW and WWE to throw the money at them.

In September, current Ring of Honor champion Matt Taven is set to be a free agent. By November, the Villain Marty Scrull is also set to be a free agent. When Taven won the ROH title at the G1 Supercard at Madison Square Garden back in April, the feeling was due to Taven’s contract ending before the Villain. However, that is not the case after the news came out today. Both superstars are in their early thirties, so wherever they go they will become a main stay. However now begs the question, where do Taven and Scrull end up going?

Does Marty Scrull head to NXT or AEW?

The feeling is that Marty Scrull will probably not resign with Ring of Honor once his contract is up. Since that is the case, fans should expect him to sign with either AEW or NXT. If he were to go to WWE, he would probably start off in NXT. While his addition would be incredibly beneficial for the company, he would be added to an already crowded field. As of now, you have Adam Cole, Johnny Gargano, Tomasso Ciampa, Keith Lee, Matt Riddle, Damien Priest, Cameron Grimes, Dexter Lumis, and Dominik Dijakovic who make up most of the field.

If he were to go to AEW, he would fit right in. For starters, he was one of the featured people on the Youtube series, Being the Elite. In addition, he would probably get put into the title picture and could have great matches with guys like Jon Moxley, Pac, Jericho, Omega, and others.

What does the future hold for Matt Taven?

While Marty Scrull’s future seems easy, the same can’t be said about Matt Taven. As of this writing, Matt Taven currently holds the ROH title. Death before Dishonor is the next ppv event for Ring of Honor. While nothing has been made official, expect to see Matt Taven defend the ROH title on the show. The result of his match will be telling for one reason. If he drops the belt, then he probably didn’t resign. If he doesn’t drop the belt, then figure he did resign.

Where Marty Scrull fit better in AEW than NXT, you could make the argument that Taven would fit better in NXT than AEW. If Taven were to head for NXT, he would fit in perfectly as one of the top heels on the brand. Figuring they call Undisputed Era up to the main roster at some point, you are going to need someone to be that top heel.
