Ryder Cup 2018 Score Updates: Live Results from Day 1 Morning Session
The first day of the 2018 Ryder Cup is finally here. Tiger Woods is helping to lead Team USA against Team Europe after winning his first tournament in more than five years. Team Europe has the home course advantage with this year’s event taking place in Paris, France.

Every day of the Ryder Cup is fun to watch. The action is intense and the first team to 14.5 points wins the event. Team USA won the Ryder Cup in 2016 but that tournament was held in the USA. The last time Team USA won in Europe was in 1993 when they won, 15-13, at The Belfrey in England. Each team has 12 players on its roster. Not every player plays in each session and some will see less time than others.

Match 1: Brooks Koepka and Tony Finau vs Justin Rose and Jon Rahm
Hole 1: Team Europe took an early one-hole lead.

Hole 2: A one-hole lead remained with Team Europe in front.
Hole 3: Finau hit the tree on his approach to the green, while Rose played his fourth shot from the bunker. However, Finau got up and down to half the hole after Koepka missed his eagle shot to win the hole. After three holes, Team Europe leads by one in this grouping.
Hole 4: Both teams made a four (par) on the hole to keep Europe’s lead at one hole. Koepka missed yet another putt. This is the second time where he had a chance to give Team USA an advantage on a hole.
Hole 5: Finau made up for a missed putt by Koepka to limit Team Europe’s lead to one.

Hole 6: After driving over the green, Finau chipped the ball into the hole for an eagle and put pressure on Team Europe. Rose’s long putt had the right speed but he missed it just right. The USA takes the hole and things are tied after six.

Match 2: Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler vs Rory McIlroy and Thorbjorn Olesen
Hole 1: All even after the first hole for all four golfers.
Hole 3: Both teams missed eagle putts and the score remained tied after three holes.
Hole 4: All squared
Hole 5: Fowler had a chance to put Team USA up one, but he missed his semi-long putt before recovering to keep it all square.
Match 3: Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas vs Paul Casey and Tyrrell Hatton
Hole 1: Spieth almost holed out his approach spot on the first hole. However, it lipped the cup as the American was able to get a birdie. Team USA won the hole after Hatton missed his birdie putt, leaving the ball short of the hole.
Hole 2: Spieth completed his put to keep USA’s lead to one.
Hole 3: Both teams made par to keep Team USA’s to 1 UP.
Hole 4: Spieth made a big putt to keep Team USA in front.

Match 4: Tiger Woods and Patrick Reed vs Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood

The crowd went wild as Tiger Woods’ name was read at the first tee as the final grouping of the morning began action. Patrick Reed, who is Woods’ 13th different Ryder Cup partner, drew some boos as the European fans let him know they were present.
Hole 1: Europe 1 UP
Reed wasn’t phased by the boos as his tee shot found the fairway. Woods followed up with a five wood. His shot went to the left but stopped short of the water. Both Team Europe players found the short grass as well.
Tiger Woods kept his approach shot on the fringe luckily after his backspin almost put his ball in danger. Molinari got his shot the closest for Team Europe very close to the pin. Reed’s ball came up short took a splash into the water.
Team Europe took a 1 hole lead after Molinari made his putt after hitting a close approach shot.
Hole 2: Even
Team Europe’s tee shots were not great. Molinari’s shot landed in a bunker and Fleetwoods shot landed up in the same general area. Reed’s tee shot landed in the thick rough near the bunker where Molinari’s ball ended up. Woods used a four iron off the tee and aggressively aimed for the hole. It paid off as his shot landed about five feet from the hole.
Luckily, four-ball play isn’t stroke play after Team Europe’s recovery shots led to long par putts. Fleetwood’s par putt lipped out and Team Europe conceded to Team USA. Woods still made his short birdie putt for the sake of his routine.
Hole 3:
Tiger’s third shot from the rough landed within a few feet of the hole. He sunk his putt but Molinari responded with his own put to keep the score all square.
