Sacramento Kings: It’s Crucial The Team Re-Signs Buddy Hield

Buddy Hield

There must be a sense of urgency for the Sacramento Kings to re-sign Buddy Hield. He’s entering the final year of his rookie deal this season. If the team doesn’t act fast, they’ll lose him. Kings General Manager, Vlade Divac, knows that he needs to do whatever it takes to keep Hield in Sacramento.

One of the best 3-point shooters in the game, Hield is too good to let walk. The Sacramento faithful know how valuable Hield is to the team. Losing him would be a major step backward for the evolving Kings roster. Simply put, this is an entirely different team without him.

Not to say the Sacramento Kings can’t replace shooting, Hield is as gifted as they come. During his first three NBA seasons, Hield has made over 600 3’s. He’s also the teams single season record holder for 3’s made. It’s this kind of production the Kings need in their lineup.

Hield, who’s currently at the end of his rookie deal, could be looking at damn near max money from the Kings. A lot will depend on his performance this year, but, with the evolution he made as the full-time starter for the Kings, it would be asinine to think he won’t improve his game. Divac will need to make some hard decisions come free agency.

One move he’ll need to make in order to sing Hield, let go of Bogdan Bogdanovic. If the Kings sign Hield to a massive deal, it would be likely Bogdanovic isn’t re-signed by the team. That’s a risk the Kings will need to take. This might be why Divac doesn’t offer Hield the full max, as he wants to keep this core of talent together.

The question becomes, “does Hield re-sign for anything less than the max?” We don’t know the answer to that question. Hield and his agent know his worth in the league. Kings fans shouldn’t expect any kind of discount on him just because he’s currently playing with Sacramento. The front office needs to go into negotiations expecting to pay the max. Signing for anything less than that is an added bonus.

Divac wants to keep Hield in Sacramento. You can expect him to do whatever it takes to do just that. He’s a big part of the team’s future. If this means making some tough roster decisions, so be it. Signing Hield is in the best interest of the Kings. He’s a vital piece to an NBA title run.
