San Diego Padres: Three reasons to chase after Manny Machado
With the San Diego Padres in need of more talent on their roster, it only makes sense to go after somebody as elite as Manny Machado.
Here are three reasons why the Pads should throw their hat into the slugger’s sweepstakes.
1.) BE AGGRESSIVE
After signing Eric Hosmer to a huge deal last offseason, it only makes sense to keep adding all-star talent.
The Padres need a cornerstone player and Manny Machado could attract other free agents to join him.
The addition of Machado shows the rest of the National League that San Diego is no longer an after thought and should be taken seriously.
With the division weaker this year, it makes sense for the Pads to do whatever they can to add a great hitter like Machado, especially since they have one of the lower payrolls in baseball.
2.) LOOK AT WHITE SOX
The ChiSox are a rebuilding team, but according to some, have made an offer to Machado worth less than $200 million.
If Chicago feels like they’re worth Machado’s time than San Diego should jump in with an offer of their own.
Adding Machado to a core that includes Eric Hosmer, Wil Myers, and Hunter Renfroe would provide a consistent threat each game.
If Chicago and the Cincinnati Reds can show they’re interested in bringing in well-known players, it’s time for the Padres to do the same.
3.) DOOMED DIVISION
The NL West isn’t as good as it used to be and it should give San Diego extra motivation to be a player in the Manny Machado race.
If things fall into place, the Padres could jump to at least second place in the West.
Obviously, San Diego needs help in more ways than one, but Machado gives them hope and a bat that can change their future in a big way.
