San Francisco 49ers: Are they a 10 Win team?
Add the San Francisco 49ers to the growing list of dysfunctional teams that have made a turnaround. It wasn’t too long ago that Colin Kaepernick looked awful on the field with the 49ers and was quickly placed on the bench. A year later he was cut from the team and the team looked like it was in for a world of hurt.
Luckily for fans, the team was able to make a trade for now starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo who would go on to win 5 straight under center. Fast forward a year and Niners fans worst fears hit and down goes their new favorite quarterback. This year he’s back and the team has started hot. Sure, at 2-0 seems a little too early to crown them the new champs but an offense averaging 36 points a game has to put the rest of the NFL on notice.
But can they keep up the momentum for a playoff push?
The magic number in the NFC for playoff seeds seems to be 10 wins and even then it’s not guaranteed. With teams like the Cowboys, Rams, Seahawks, Eagles, Packers, Vikings, Panthers, and Saints there’s a crowded playoff field. Each of those teams could possibly win their division, but they’d be a fight to the finish for the wildcard spots. Then, of course, there’s always the teams that play spoiler late in the season who come out of nowhere to push a playoff spot.
The 49ers hold all the cards in their hand right now. They’ll face the Packers, Rams twice, Seahawks twice, and even a tough Ravens team. They’ll also face the Packers and Falcons so they’ll have plenty of chances to assert themselves as contenders this season.
The San Francisco 49ers could’ve easily rolled over and became one of the bottom feeders in the NFL. Their front office might have ticked some fans off along the way, but unlike the current struggling teams they were able to make the right moves to keep them afloat. Can they be a 10 win team and make the playoffs this season?
