Sarah Drew and Jessica Capshaw Will Be Leaving Grey’s Anatomy After Season 14
It’s a sad day for fans of the hit ABC show Grey’s Anatomy as it was announced that two of it’s biggest stars, Sarah Drew and Jessica Capshaw will be leaving the show after its 14th Season according to US Weekly. While Grey’s has survived countless departures, these two women have added more to Grey’s Anatomy than just their explosive looks.
Drew, who plays the April Kepner brought the awareness of faith to Grey’s with her strong belief in God. Capshaw, who plays Arizona, added the LGBT dynamic to the show. While there are many reasons for their departure being speculated throughout social media, showrunner, Krista Vernoff defended the change by saying:
The only thing constant on Grey’s Anatomy as Ellen Pompeo is our penchant for reinvention. It is part of our success and what keeps the show exciting,” she posted. “We love these actresses and we love these characters and it felt true and right creatively to wrap up their stories. And that is the whole story.
When news of their departure it, many speculated that is was due to the new contract signed by star Ellen Pompeo that will pay her $20 million per season. However, as Vernoff would state, it was just a decision that was made by the staff. Fans of Grey’s Anatomy have been here before as this is the norm with the show. While both characters will be missed, the show will continue on just as it always has.
Caterina Scorsone, who plays Amelia Shepherd, had this to say about her colleagues on her Instagram account. “A post to honor the beautiful, smart, kind, powerful, women that I’ve had the privilege of sharing life with these past years. Sisterhood. Friendship. Balance it out with some Matriarchy.”
The bigger question with their departures is what will happen to Arizona and Kepner leading up the Season 14 finale?
