Seattle Mariners: Mark Teixeira has some harsh criticism on Robinson Cano
The Seattle Mariners are having an interesting 2018 season. In 43 games, they are 24-19 and stand in third place in a rather heated American League West. It’s hot because there is a three-game difference between the Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angels, and Seattle Mariners. While they are keeping it close, they got some sad news. Unfortunately, their second baseman and eight-time all-star Robinson Cano would suffer a hand injury. The Mariners revealed that surgery on the hand is a requirement. However, the worst news came when an announcement came that MLB would suspend Robinson Cano for 80 games for violating MLB’s Joint Drug Agreement. This bombshell was the talk on many sports shows across the United States.
One of the people who made a comment was Robinson Cano’s former teammate Mark Teixeira while he was doing his weekly spot on the Michael Kay Show on 98.7 ESPN. When Michael Kay asked him about his thoughts on the situation with his former teammate, he said he wasn’t overly surprised. This would end up raising a few eyebrows. He also made the point that Cano’s assistant is on the Biogenesis list. This was the same list that took down guys like Alex Rodriguez, Nelson Cruz, and Ryan Braun.
This was brought under the microscope because people felt that Teixeira was wrong for saying something about how he wasn’t shocked about Cano. Michael Kay made the point and I would agree with him. Mark Teixeira isn’t the bad guy here. It seems that Cano is getting a pass on the whole thing and I disagree with that. I don’t think this tarnishes his legacy and he will get into the Hall of Fame. With that said, I don’t think he will get in right away and will end up getting the treatment from the voters that Bonds and Clemens would end up getting. Here is a clip from the interview in which Mark Teixeira made the comments about Robinson Cano
