Shanghai Disneyland: Zootopia Is Coming To The Park

Zootopia

Zootopia is coming to Shanghai Disneyland The popular Disney animated film will be the backdrop for new land in Disney’s newest park. Zootopia was one of the highest grossing animated films in China. This new section of Shanghai Disney makes a lot of sense.

First, “Why didn’t the U.S. get this land?” Folks in the states also really loved and adored the film. It’s not known, but perhaps the pending success of Shanghai Zootopia might change plans a bit.

Back to the new Zootopia land in Shanghai. This will have to be an ambitious project. The world of Zootopia is very detailed. Disney has promised a cutting edge attraction, shops, and restaurants. The detail the animation team went into with the movie is unparalleled. The theme park land should have the same detail.

We were given the following details about Zootopia land from Disney in a press release.

“With a brand-new attraction, entertainment, merchandise, and food and beverage offerings, the new land will provide guests with even more to experience and enjoy at Shanghai Disneyland than ever before. The new themed land will invite guests to fully immerse themselves in the mammalian metropolis of Zootopia, ‘where anyone can be anything.'”

What can we expect from Zootopia land? It’s obvious one of the food items will be red popsicles. There’s a brief storyline in the film that revolves around those. We should also expect carrots and veggies, as those have a strong connection to Judy.

One of the things Zootopia land must have is great character interaction. You’re going to get Nick and Judy, but what about Flash? The sloth is one of the movies more memorable characters. Perhaps do a meet and greet inside of a DMV-like setting.

What can we expect from the ride? We’ve just seem the animatronics from the Tokyo Beauty and the Beast ride. Zootopia should be very similar to that kind of advancement. Shanghai Disney is home to one of the most amazing dark rides in the world, Pirates of the Caribbean (Shanghai is widely regarded as the best of all the versions.)

We don’t have ant details about the Zootopia ride except the following taken from the Disney Parks Blog,

“with a new major attraction that will seamlessly blend Disney storytelling and state-of-the-art technology to bring this fan-favorite movie and its characters to life – including Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.”

Not much information is given about the ride. We need to expect something cutting edge. A lot of people want to see the Zootopia tram somehow incorporated into the land. Perhaps some sort of Hogwarts Express type attraction. You’d expect one E-ticket attraction and possibly one D or C ticket as well.

What would be fun to see is a similar design to Diagon Alley. You’d have all of the shops and buildings have some sort of themeing, merch, and food inside. Make the land feel like a vibrant Metropolitan City. Giving it that effect will add a lot to the overall experience.

There’s so much Shanghai Disneyland and the Walt Disney inagineeres can do with the world of Zootopia. What they come up with will probably be breathtaking. If this succeeds (and it will), perhaps Zootopia comes to Walt Disney World or Disneyland. This is an ambitious project. You should have little doubt Disney knocks this out of the park.
