Shazam Trailer: Is This the DC film We Need? Cavemen Radio Show

Shazam

If there was a winner at San Diego Comic-Con it was DC and Shazam. Fans have been analyzing the film every step of the way. From the casting of Zachary Levi to the super suit, to the comedy aspect echoing similarities to Deadpool. Luckily for DC, the trailer quieted most of that noise.

With their first teaser trailer for Shazam, DC seems to have reworked an often criticized trait for these characters. Too many times the big screen adaptations resembled nothing like we’ve seen from their comic counterparts. Shazam, on the other hand, looks like he’s been copied and pasted to the big screen. From the young heroic Billy Batson to the actual hero stand in Shazam, their likenesses have been captured perfectly.

No this doesn’t need to be the adult comedy that Deadpool was to be fun. The lighthearted Billy Batson could be the upbeat family-friendly movie DC needs. Another criticism facing the troubled studio is their heroes seem too dark and brooding. Now with Shazam, we’re seeing the superhero version of the movie Big. Now instead of turning into an adult working in corporate America, we’ll be treated to Billy turning into an adult version of a superhero.

As goofy as the name Shazam sounds it’s actually an acronym for Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury, the six immortal elders. Originally the character was penned as Captain Marvel, but obviously with a character existing in the Marvel universe threw a wrench into that and DC would eventually change the character’s name. Oddly enough DC ran into their own issues when the character was drawn up as he struck a similar resemblance to their cornerstone character Superman. Eventually, they’d require the rights and problem solved.

Now the movie itself looks about as fun as a family-friendly superhero film can. Shazam has no indication that it will be the darker adult themed actin film DC and Warner Bros usually pump out. Hanging on to the hope that their next wave of films can right the ship, Shazam comes at a perfect time when the studio seems to be distancing itself from the DCEU and the Snyder-verse. After Aquaman in December, Shazam will be DCs next movie set to release in April of 2019. Will it be the film that pulls them back from the brink?[CMRickTwitter]
