Six Actresses We Want More Of in 2018 and Beyond

Actresses

The landscape in Hollywood is changing. The great actors and actresses we grew to love as kids are making fewer movies as they age. As the year goes on 2018 has had a few blockbuster hits already. There’s a newer class of talent representing themselves on screen and we’re ready for the next generation of fame. With the list of talent growing, who do we want to see more films out of?

Zoe Saldana:

By the time Avengers: Infinity War completes its theatrical run, it has a real shot at surpassing Titanic as the second highest-grossing film of all time. It would have to have some serious legs to beat out Avatar at the top spot, but would still mean Zoe Saldana is the star of the top 2 grossing films of all time. With a reported 4 Avatar sequels in place and a hopeful return to the MCU, there’s a good chance she can take on the top 5.

Zendaya:

From the Disney Channel to potential superstar, there’s nothing Zendaya can’t do and she has the resume to prove it. From the socially awkward Michelle in Spider-man: Homecoming, to the graceful Anne Wheeler in The Greatest Showman, to runner-up on tv’s Dancing with the Stars her ability to sing, dance, and act should land her any role she chooses for the rest of her career. At just 21, her career has the potential to last for years to come.

Chloe Bennett:

Don’t worry Agents of Shield fans, Chloe and the rest of the cast will be back for the recently announced season 6. Starring as the series breakout star Skye/Daisy/Quake, whatever you want to call her, she quickly became one of the fan favorites. Each of the past 3 seasons there have been rumors of cancellation for the Marvel hit tv show, but with such a strong fan presence it keeps getting renewed. At 26, the young actress has also explored a singing career. Holding her own as the center of the Shield universe should be able to land her on her feet when the show eventually comes to an end.

Tessa Thompson:

If you’ve lived under a rock, you probably haven’t seen any of Tessa Thompson’s work. You may not recognize her name/face just yet but by now you’ve probably seen her work. She’s been in some very large roles as of late. The talented actress has landed in roles like Bianca in Creed in the Rocky Balboa franchise, as Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok, and Charlotte Hale on HBO’s latest hit Westworld. With heavyweight roles, it’s only a matter of time before she becomes a household name if you don’t consider her one already.

Olivia Cooke:

With Ready Player One being a surprise hit in 2018, most of us were introduced to a young actress in Olivia Cooke. For those of you who can dig into your Sundance Film Festival archives, you’ll remember her as Rachel from Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. Yes, she’s even had a role in a short-lived tv series as Emma Decody on Bates Motel. Turning 25 this December, after a breakout movie such as Ready Player One this young actress put her name on the map.

Dove Cameron:

Most widely known for her role as Mal from the Descendants franchise, Marvel fans will recognize her as Ruby on Agents of Shield. At 22 years old, she’s another singer/actress who’s also lent her voice acting ability to Gwen Stacy in a couple of different Marvel animation roles. Hopefully, her role as Ruby on Agents of Shield was enough to shake off the Disney type-cast and land her some stronger roles in the future.

Okay, so a lot of these young actresses have appeared primarily in the superhero genre, but we don’t care. With waves and waves of superheroes being thrown at us, it’s our job to dig through the cookie-cutter roles and find the breakout stars. Each of these young actresses has potential to be the next Hollywood A-lister should they choose the big roles going forward. With the old guard slowly fading into retirement, it’s time for the next generation of talented actresses to emerge. Which of these young stars is your favorite?
