Spider-Man: Andrew Garfield Deserves His Sequel

Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man

Fans got all sorts of excited when Sam Raimi stated that Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire is “possible”. Whether or not it actually happens is yet to be seen. However, if anyone deserves a fair shot at a sequel to their Spider-Man, it’s Andrew Garfield. Tobey’s Spider-Man was great and may have kicked off the superhero hype, but Andrew’s never really got a fair chance.

First, when it comes to each iteration of Spider-Man Tobey Maguire was the first and had very little to compare to. Not only did Andrew Garfield have big shoes to fill but he had to work through a poor decision to reboot and re-run an origin story we’d already seen. True The Amazing Spider-Man chose a different love interest in Gwen Stacy instead of Mary Jane, but we were still fed an origin story. When it comes to beloved characters, whoever comes next will always be compared to who came first. Ask any actor who played Batman after Michael Keaton how fair their criticism was to their overall performance.

Besides the fact that Andrew Garfield was a better casting choice. Sorry, he just was. I love the original Spider-Man movies just the same as anyone else, but Andrew Garfield had more range of emotion in his Peter Parker. Say what you want about the story, the directing, heck even argue soundtracks, but Andrew Garfield had a stronger performance as an actor.

Now that Sony has the backing of Disney to help prop up their Spider-verse, it’s time to explore more options. Once Doctor Strange And the Multiverse of Madness is in full swing, Sony needs to lean into more iterations of Spidey and cash in. After seeing just how much people loved No Way Home, they need to invest in what could have been, especially after the end credit scene

**Spoilers from here on out**

Let’s talk about the post-credit scene in No Way Out. We now know that Tom Hardy’s Venom was revealed but quickly left, leaving behind some of the symbiote. Since Tobey’s Spider-Man already has its version of Venom and Tom Holland’s is where a piece of Venom was left behind, what universe is Tom Hardy’s Venom from?

How cool would it be to have Tom Hardy as Venom in the Andrew Garfield Spider-verse? Tom Hardy has always been a fan favorite and is absolutely crushing it as Eddie Brock. Andrew Garfield has really come into his own as an actor with some pretty big roles as of late. If Sony has any chance of making a Spider-verse outside the Disney web, why not pair these two in a Spidey spin-off from No Way Home? Give Andrew Garfield his Spider-Man redemption story and wrap up his trilogy. You can still go forward with the other movies if the demand is there, but this story deserves its closure.
