Stop With All Of The Giannis Antetokounmpo Leaving Milwaukee Talk
A lot can happen in two years. It’s nearly impossible to predict where Giannis Antetokounmpo will end up. A lot of delirious NBA fans imagine he’ll end up with the Golden State Warriors. That’s just not true at this point, as nobody really knows what he’s thinking.
When you’re a superstar like Antetokounmpo, the pressure to win a ring is enormous. To truly be considered one of the greats, you need that championship. Truth be told, he can win the Larry O’Brien in Milwaukee. The Bucks are a dangerous team, one that, while relying heavily on Giannis Antetokounmpo, has the pieces.
It’s possible Antetokounmpo goes the Kevin Durant route and signs with the powerhouse Warriors in 2021. Assuming the Bucks stay the course, he won’t have to, as the team is built for the long haul.
After just singing Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez to deals, Milwaukee knows they’ve got the chance to win now. Despite improvements by several Eastern Conference teams, they are still the favorites this year, and at the very least a top-three team the following.
It makes more sense for Giannis to sign the super-max extension as soon as the Bucks make it available to him. It’s not often in sports that a player remain loyal to a team for the length of his career. That will say a lot about the legacy of Giannis Antetokounmpo. He seems to be committed to Milwaukee, telling Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN the following,
“I want to be a part of a winning team. As long as we have the same mindset and same approach to the game, there’s no reason for me to move and not be like Steph [Curry], not like be like Dirk [Nowitzki] or Kobe [Bryant] or Tim Duncan.”
According to the quote, if Milwaukee keeps the winning atmosphere, Antetokounmpo will stay around for the long haul. That’s good news for the fans and front office of the Milwaukee Bucks staff, who haven’t had a superstar like this since the days of Lew Alcindor. He’s become one of the leagues biggest stars.
Giannis Antetokounmpo has never indicated he wanted to leave Milwaukee. Who knows how the Golden State talk got all of this attention? What is known is that for the next two years Antetokounmpo will look to bring a title to the Bucks. And that could happen as soon as this season.
If he does win a title, don’t you think Giannis will want to create a legacy in Milwaukee? Even if a championship isn’t won in the next two seasons, the Bucks will still be a contender. He’s got just as good of shot winning with the Milwaukee Bucks as he does anyone else. And Giannis Antetokounmpo knows that. That’s why he’ll stay a member of the Milwaukee Bucks.
