Suits: The Mike Ross And Rachel Zane Ending Was Boring But Left The Door Open
For seven seasons we watched as Mike Ross fought for his freedom, respect, law degree, friendships, and the woman he loves. And, for those same seven seasons, we watched as Rachel Zane fought for respect, her law degree, her father and the man she loves. But then it was reported that Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle would not return to Suits for Season 8 and we began to wonder. How would Suits write off two of their main characters?
With so many ways this could be done, it pains me to say that Suits dropped the ball on their exit.
Don’t get me wrong, the wedding was well worth it to finally see them walk down the aisle but I expected and wanted more. It wasn’t their departure that was bad, it was just how it went down.
Mike was offered a job in Seattle to run a firm with Rachel by his side. When Mike informed Rachel of the job offer, without a second thought, she was onboard. No mention of wanting to stay at Specter Litt or be with her family. She just threw it all away in five seconds.
Will Mike Ross Return To Suits In The Future?
Love is a powerful thing. However, it wasn’t their decision that made me mad one bit. It was how it was handled. From the beginning, Mike and Harvey clicked. The same can be said for Rachel and Donna. But just like that, they let them walk away with no kind of fight. The moment I was waiting for never happened between Mike and Harvey. When Mike told Harvey he was leaving, there was a hug and that’s it. Why did Suits build up their friendship to be so strong just to let it fade away like Spider-Man did in Infinity War?
All season, there should have been some type of lead-up to this decision. While fans knew it was coming, the offer to work in Seattle should have been touched upon somewhere in the first few episodes of Season 7. This storyline felt so rushed that fans were robbed of a property send off. Mike and Rachel deserved better and so did fans.
The one good thing about the send-off is that there’s a chance for them to come back. Well, at least Patrick. According to CNN, Markle is done with acting thanks to her soon-to-be marriage to Prince Harry. But will Mike come back?
All he did was take a job on the other side of the country. It’s not like his character was killed off or sent into witness protection. There’s still a small possibility he can return. Maybe then, we’ll get a proper send-off.
