Survivor Series 2019: AJ Styles, Rodrick Strong, and Shinsuke Nakamura will have match of the night
We are a few weeks away from the Survivor Series. This will be the 33rd edition of the Fall Classic and on paper looks to be one of the best ones produced by the WWE in a number of years. In recent time, Survivor Series has become Raw vs. Smackdown. We would see the title holders of each brand go at it. The one that happens this year had the stakes raised higher. That’s because it will be Raw vs. Smackdown vs. NXT. This shouldn’t be a surprise as NXT has grown as the companies third brand within the last couple of years.
As of now, we know of five confirmed matches. The confirmed matches are Bayley (SD Woman’s Champion) vs. Shayna Bazler (NXT Women’s Champion) vs. Becky Lynch (Raw Woman’s Champion, New Day (SD Tag Champions) vs. Undisputed Era (NXT Tag Champions) vs. Viking Raiders (Raw Woman’s Champion), 2 5-on-5-on-5 Survivor Series matches (one for the women and one for the men), and the only non inter-branded match where Brock Lesnar takes on Rey Mysterio for the WWE Championship. There’s a reason I didn’t bring up one of the other confirmed matches.
The latest match added to this card will see United States Champion AJ Styles vs. Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura vs. NXT North American Champion Rodrick Strong in a battle of the mid card titles. Take away what these guys have done in the WWE, they made a career for themselves outside the WWE. Rodrick Strong was a mainstay in Ring of Honor. AJ Styles and Nakamura are no strangers to each other. They tangled up when Nakamura was brought to the main roster. It lead to a WWE title match at WrestleMania 34. Even before that match, the two worked in NJPW at Wrestle Kingdom. All three of these guys can put match classics, if they are giving time.
WWE has a major opportunity to have a match of the year candidate and they can not screw this up.
