Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Could Aaron Rodgers End Up With Competitors?
Aaron Rodgers has been on a collision course with the end of his Packers career. Whether he’s heading towards retirement or more likely free agency, it’s time to start prepping for the end. He looks to have a couple of years left, so there’s a big decision to be made at the end of the season. Before his career is over he’d like to add one more championship to his resume. If he’s on the way out of Green Bay, should Tampa Bay make a move?
Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers have been on the outs for years. After Tom Brady finally called it quits, the Bucs will be looking for a suitable replacement to hold a place until they can develop a young franchise quarterback. The Buccaneers have a championship team that won the Super Bowl last year and was pushing for another this season. With a quick turnaround at quarterback, they can compete for another one again this season with little transition.

Tampa is stacked with talent and if they can bring in a top-tier quarterback, it would prevent their rebuild. They’d have to get creative to free up the cap space and trade will likely cost them high-end picks. While it might not be in their best interest to finance their future by giving up picks. There’d immediately fill the most important position on the field without burning the careers of their young talent or aging veteran playmakers. Bringing in talent like Aaron Rodgers would put other free agents on notice and be a potential landing spot for playmakers.
Green Bay could still try and work things out with Rodgers, but the team needs to rip that band-aid off before it’s too late. Rodgers is at the tail end of his career and the Packers have a ton of question marks going into next season. Yes, they could have a good offseason and stay competitive in the NFC. However, despite their success, their window is closing while teams like the Rams are kicking theirs off. Green Bay could sign their longtime quarterback to a multi-year deal but they could ruin their window to retool instead of rebuild.

If Green Bay can get multiple picks for Aaron Rodgers then they should pull the trigger. Multiple picks that land playmakers would prevent their free fall with a post-Rodgers team. They could go out and get a slightly above average QB and solid playmakers and drop to a mid-tier team while they find their strength. If they don’t, there’s the chance they’ll have to take a wild swing on the position without knowing if the young replacement can keep the team competitive. Young QBs struggle in the NFL and playing in the rough weather of Green Bay could get ugly.
Tampa Bay has the talent and could go all-in. Green Bay needs to make a move that prevents a complete collapse. This could be a match made in heaven, but does either team have the guts to pull the trigger?
