Tampa Bay Buccaneers Just Officially Ended The Career Of Eli Manning
No matter what happens next week, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just turned Daniel Jones into a New York GOD. With concerns that the rookie will continue playing New York Giants mistake-filled football Sunday, Giants fans were ready to turn their season tickets in. But what happened against the Bucs was proof that Dave Gettleman, if motivated, can be a smart man.
Jones, out of Duke University was groomed for this job. Not so much by High school or college coaches but by Eli and Peyton Manning themselves. The Manning brothers knew Jones was good, all he needed was the opportunity. Just so happens, it came at the expense of his mentor, Eli. Now what?
In his first NFL regular-season start, Jones passed for 336 yards and accounted for 4 touchdowns (2 passing, 2 rushing) while completing 63.9 percent of his passes. Not a bad start at all for the rookie. He showed poise in the pocket and while under pressure.
But most importantly for him and the Giants, Daniel Jones pulled out a victory for the team, the first of the season. This is now Jones’ team. Even if he stumbles next week, Manning should not see the field. Not just against the Redskins, but for the rest of the season
It was only one game but this report by ESPN writer, Jordan Raanan, summed up why Eli will never see the filed again as a started in New York:
There was a point in the second quarter Daniel Jones went into the huddle and said, “Let’s fu***** score!” Guys were taken aback. Had never seen that side of him, seen him curse. Moments later he pulled a zone read and ran in a touchdown. Had the sideline buzzing.
That statement said it all and with Saquan Barkley out for a few weeks, the team will need a leader to look to. For the last two years, that hasn’t been Manning. Eli Manning is done in NYC. It’s a new sheriff in town and Jones is not ready to give that badge back anytime soon.
