Ted Lasso: Player Profiles – Coach Lasso

Apple TV+'s Ted Lasso

Ted Lasso has been an absolute hit for Apple TV+. But if you’re on the outside looking in, we’ll catch you up while breaking down the roster of AFC Richmond’s favorite club while we wait for the announcement date for season three.

Strengths:

Character, character, character. Ted Lasso is the strength of the show and the strength of the team. With an unlimited supply of dad jokes, you can’t help but like the guy. His greatest quality is to bring out the best version of the player and the man on the field. He’s got the heart and drive to be successful and puts his players first. He’s a players coach who cares more about his players than his success. Winning isn’t everything, but when you put your guys first, it brings out the extra effort in them. His relentless positivity is what brings out the best of his personality for his team.

Weaknesses:

Besides an open jar of peanut butter, Ted Lasso just doesn’t know the game. He’s going to run the drills and be the leader, but when it comes to strategy he’s at a loss. He’s a bit of a pushover to start and it takes a while for him to earn his player’s respect. The lack of knowledge puts him behind his peers. His constant need to be liked is a setback that rattles his nerves in the biggest of moments. Without his supporting cast of coaches, he might not have the success he’s enjoyed. When he gets in his head, the ability to take control is out the window.

The Verdict

Ted Lasso isn’t the most dominant coach, and he’ll make you pull your hair out on occasions, but he’s exactly what a struggling team needs. He’s the guy who sets the tone for the entire team. He gives it his all and in return so do his players. Playing above their skill level is common in a Lasso-run team. He might not be the prettiest date at the prom, but you’ll be glad you went with him. Ted Lasso is a winner.
