Tennessee Titans: Is Youth Over Experience the Wrong Move?

Potential Titans qb Tom Brady

If rumors are true than the Tennessee Titans prefer to bring back Ryan Tannehill over Tom Brady. Brady would sure bring in some much-needed leadership and playoff experience. However, the Titans would rather stick with the younger veteran over the future Hall of Farmer. Brady has won more championships than any other quarterback and is said to be on his way out of New England. Tennessee has been without a steady quarterback and could be in the market for an eventual upgrade, but for now, they’re working on getting a deal done for Tannehill.

With this move, it’s clear what direction the Tennessee Titans would prefer to lean when it comes to their offense. While Brady could bring a couple more wins in the regular season and more than likely be the catalyst in key elements of their playoff wins. Unfortunately, if Tennessee goes all-in on Brady, they’re less likely to be able to afford star running back Derrick Henry and reward him for his hard work. Rather than finance their future on an all-star quarterback for a season or two, the Titans would rather invest in the 26-year old stud back.

With the draft class as deep as it is in quarterback, Tennessee could invest slightly in Ryan Tannehill for now and draft a replacement in the mid-rounds. The team sees to know exactly what they have right now and doesn’t want a “win, now” scenario to set their team back in the future. Tannehill has been adequate enough to get them to the playoffs but not enough to get them to the Super Bowl, just yet. If the Titans can spend their offseason and cap space wisely they won’t need to overpay for a star like Brady.

Tennessee could be gambling by sticking with the run first offense, but a strong defense and ball control might be able to get it done. In a quarterback driven league, the best way to slow them down is to keep the ball out of their hands. Tennessee’s strategy paid off big down the stretch last season but an offseason to watch tape could have opponents leveling the playing field. Are there cheaper alternatives to Derrick Henry that could keep the Titans afloat so they can invest in Brady?

A faster pace offense that can score at will could be just what they need to excel past the rest of the AFC into the Super Bowl. Are the Titans making the right move?
