Tennessee Titans: The Reemergence of Ryan Tannehill
The Tennessee Titans never really seemed sold on Marcus Mariota. With his glimpses of being the next big thing, every other week was a new set back for him. Then when he went down last season with an injury he never quite got back to his next big thing path. Further south, Ryan Tannehill wasn’t in too much favor within the Miami Dolphins organization either. He’d have a break out game and sink back into a losing slump. The Titans literally needed a backup plan for Mariota and Tannehill needed a fresh start.
Fastforward to midway through this season, Mariota struggling the coaches decided to call on their backup to help save their season. Now they’re on a four game win streak and it’s in large part due to the play of Ryan Tannehill. Just last week alone his stat line read 21/27 with 391 yards and three touchdowns. He did have the one interception but being that firmly in the driver’s seat yuo can afford to make the occasional mistake. The Titans were able to take down the surging Oakland Raiders.
Now, of course, no one is crowning Ryan Tannehill the next great quarterback, no is anyone saying he’ll lead the Titans to a Super Bowl. However, it does have to sting a little bit to some Dolphins fans who knew all along he would go on to be a winner elsewhere. The Dolphins and Tannehill were under coached by two offensive minded “gurus” in the NFL circles. Both Joe Philbin and Adam Gase would fail to put together consistent winning teams in Miami and Tannehill was often the scape goat.
Now with a new uniform and pressure of being a starter lifted from his shoulders, he’s going on to be a different type of savior. He doesn’t have to turn an entire franchise around, just has to do enough as the former backup to keep the team winning. He is, and Titans fans should be happy about it. Right now the AFC isn’t looking as challenging as it used to so the continued success could lead to a playoff run. if he keeps winning, the Titans might become the Tanne-see Titans.
