The Batman: Is DC Finally Utilizing Selina Kyle/Catwoman Right?
The Batman and Catwoman relationship is one of the strongest stories of the hero’s comic run. The bond between Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle has been a roller coaster of emotion but has never really played out on screen. There’s been a long list of great actresses tied to the Catwoman role but none of the movies went in-depth.
Now with Matt Reeves’ take on the Caped Crusader, maybe and hopefully we’ll finally see that unfold.

Two is Zoey Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman. These are the early stages of Bruce and Selina so it is very important they get the chemistry right. The intrigue has to be there and you have to believe their story is one that will last throughout his years. Every time we’ve seen the two on-screen in previous movies, it was always a passing glance or minimal connection at best.
More often than not Catwoman has always been portrayed as a minor piece of the story. Her presence should highlight his naive ways and serve as a proper distraction. Every time they use the character on screen it serves as an eye-roll moment to get an attractive actress dressed up in a skin-tight suit with barely any screen time or lackluster plot points.

The relationship between Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle has always been forbidden desires. He chases her trying to lure her away from the crime he’s fighting, she leads him on trying to convince him the world he’s fighting for is corrupt. Both believe they can change each other but neither one succeeds.
Taking nothing away from the actresses to play the characters over the year’s, the character has always seemed underdeveloped. It’s like Warner Bros wanted to use her but couldn’t figure out a strong enough movie so they added her as a side character.
With The Batman in 2022 it looks like they finally are giving her more screen time. Unless its one of those situations where they use the best parts for the trailer, there’s major plot points at play. With longer run times on superhero movies these days, its easier to sprinkle in some of the side characters. If there’s any hope of these having sequels, they better nail the secondary stories like Catwoman in the first movie.
The Riddler looks to be the main focus of The Batman with The Penguin and Catwoman in the background. Rather than dive right into the next Joker story too soon, maybe they’ll finally focus on suspense until then. We’re going back to the early days of Bruce Wayne so they can shape these stories however they want. As long as they don’t focus on the origin story we should get more substance.
