The Big Bang Theory Missed An Opportunity For Raj
Being a little behind on The Big Bang Theory, the best news came when it was announced it would be on HBO Max. Over a year later and we finally caught up with the fan-favorite comedy of 12 seasons. By the end, Amy and Sheldon had won the Nobel Prize, Howard and Bernadette started a family including two children, Leonard and Penny were starting one of their own, and Raj .. met Buffy the Vampire Slayer?
When it comes to this style shows, The Big Bang Theory wasn’t exactly a unique concept. It followed in the footsteps of shows like How I Met Your Mother, Friends, and Seinfeld before it. It was a show about a group of friends, their everyday lives, and the shenanigans that happen along the way. At least with Big Bang Theory, it had a neat nerdy/scientific twist.

Like many shows before it, finding a perfect ending always leaves a lot left on the table as a good show will always leave you wanting more. For instance, was meeting Buffy a new avenue for Raj or just a fan service to not leave him out? How will Leonard and Penny overcome their differences for a child of their own? Realizing his life’s dream what is next for Sheldon?
The one disappointment for The Big Bang Theory is it didn’t leave enough interest to remotely care for a spinoff. Sure, there’s always Young Sheldon as a prequel, but by design, they closed off everything well enough everything was left with a neat little bow.
While Big Bang Theory wasn’t as disappointing as the HIMYM finale to most viewers, one of the few things that bugged me about the finale season was Raj’s story. A series regular from the start should’ve had a stronger presence going into the finale than a mid-series add-on. Stuart joined the series all the way back in season 2 but was in far fewer episodes but found more of his happy ending.
By the end he found love, they focused on Stuart’s love life, built up his comic shop as a locally recognized hotspot, and he was moving out of Howard and Bernadette’s. Without taking away from his character and story, leaving Raj wandering aimlessly in life wasn’t fair to his audience.
Big deal he got a job and the planetarium and discovered a comet, his success was significantly ignored more than the rest of the cast. It was beyond disappointing to see a character who we’ve enjoyed for 12 seasons get ignored.
The Big Bang Theory was at least an enjoyable finale compared to a lot of shows of the past. It was a satisfying and touching ending that had a definite stopping point. There was little fanfare but at least it didn’t fizzle out, instead of ending on a semi-high note.
