The Blacklist: Did Mr. Kaplan Know The Truth Or Was She A Pawn?

Blacklist

One of the stories that always has fans of The Blacklist on the fence is the storyline between Raymond Redington, Elizabeth Keen, and Mr. Kaplan. After Liz learned the truth, that Mr. Kaplan storyline becomes more confusing.

For years, Kate and Katarina were friends. When Katarina decided to vanish, she made sure that Kate was one of the people to look over Liz. And for the most part, that’s exactly what she did. But there was always a missing piece to the puzzle.

If Mr. Kaplan knew Katarina as a young mother, did she know the true identity of Reddington? When Red and Mr. Kaplan went to war with one another, Kate did dig up the bones and set everything in motion for Liz to find out the truth. But even before that, Red or Katarina put a bullet in her head for going against his/her wishes.

This is where it all gets a bit fuzzy.

Kate was sent to keep an eye on Liz. So why would she go against the wishes of Katarina if Katarina is indeed Reddington? If she knew the true identity then why would she be forced to make a decision regarding what was best for Liz against her own mother?

Katarina made it clear that protecting Liz was her only goal but killing such a close friend who had nothing but Liz’s best interest makes no sense. So, did Kaplan know the identity or not? And that also brings the question of how she knew so much about Reddington’s criminal life?

Kate was there from the beginning of it all so why would Katarina not include her in the plans? And, if Kate didn’t know, whoever is playing the role of Reddington had to know that Kate crossing Red was done in order to protect Liz and her unborn baby. Wasn’t that the plan all along?

Despite Liz finding out the majority of the truth. It’s the Mr. Kaplan storyline that caught my attention the most.
