The Charles M. Schulz Museum Is A Must For Peanuts Fans
Every Peanuts fan should visit the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, California. Going back to his original sketches of the characters to the present day, this Museum is full of classic Peanuts comics, statues, facts, exhibits, and much more. What can you expect to find?
There are a lot of different things to see. The Charles M. Schulz office was one of the most memorable. It was brought over piece by piece to its current home in the museum. The layout stayed exactly the same as it did many years ago. It was re-created perfectly. You get an almost surreal feeling to see the exact desk and office layout where he got the inspiration for the Peanuts comics.
The main reason to do the Charles M. Schulz Museum is for Peanuts. Fans of the classic cartoon won’t be disappointed. Not only are the comic strips on full display (the debut of the Kite-Eating Tree being my favorite), there are exhibits which showcase Peanuts in some way.
When I went in late January, the non-permanent exhibit revolved around Snoopy. You got to see the evolution of the classic cartoon character. Everyone from the Red Baron to his relationship with Linus, it was all there. In addition, there’s a really cool photo-op as well.
The first floor has most of the exhibits. There are few murals and statues across the museum. All of which make for a great photo. There’s also a video detailing the life of Schulz, and a theater showing classic Peanuts films.
Upstairs features a collection of things to see as well. There’s the Schulz desk and a coloring studio for the kids (or adults). This is also where you’ll find the Schulz items on display. And you’ll also get to see how Peanuts evolved across the years.
You might say when arriving, “there’s not too much to do.” That’s just not true. It might seen small, but it’s absolutely not. Spending time walking around and reading the different comic strips can take hours. It’s heaven for Peanuts fans.
On the other side of the Museum is the hockey rink and gift shop. Hockey was a passion for Schulz. It’s fitting he have a rink so close to his work space. The reasoning behind the hockey rink is stated in the introduction video about Charles M. Schulz.
Getting into the Charles M. Schulz museum isn’t too expensive. The cost is $12 per adult, $8 for seniors (62 and over), $5 for youth and students (4-18), and free for 3 and under. Its not a bad way to spend an afternoon, especially if you love Peanuts. Check out the museum if you’re in the Santa Rosa area.
