The Chi: One Apartment, A Dozen Different Stories
Fans of The Chi had one question after Kiesha was found last week–what’s next for her? The trauma she endured was sure to rear its ugly head sooner or later and the writers did a great job with this episode of bringing it out early. But they did so in a non-conventional way. Instead of making Kiesha the main focal point of the storyline, they spread the love around by focusing on the original cast.
Kiesha was still the hot topic but it was more about everyone getting through their demons in order to save her from hers. First up was the other’s guilt of not being able to protect Kiesha from the kidnapping. While she and Dre tried their best to take the hit, Kiesha reverted back to her normal ways of shutting everyone out.
Kevin, her younger brother felt trapped in the house and invited his friend’s Popa and Jake over. They smoked weed and played video games while Kiesha was holed up in the room. But the real moment of clarity came when Emmett and his mother showed up at the door with food.
The storyline continued with Emmett and Kiesha. While others tried and failed, it was Emmett who broke the ice that was surrounding Keisha. They know each other well and Kiesha knew that Emmett was there only out of concern. They laughed and exchanged stories but it was Emmett who informed her that it was time to move forward.

When it appeared that everything was heading back to normal, the showdown between Kevin and Kiesha came to the forefront. While their bond has been somewhat rocky as brother and sister, it was Kevin who was out in the streets looking for his sister. It was Kevin’s turn to set the record straight. He blamed Kiesha for what happened to her by suggesting the way she dressed and how she acted by dealing with the older guys in her life caused her abduction.
The reason this episode stood out above the rest was the sheer reason The Chi has been so good for three seasons. With all the bad publicity it has received due to firings and out-of-place storylines, “Frunchroom” was a welcome sight to its loyal fans.
The connection between Kiesha and Emmett brought back feelings from Season 1. Kevin, Popa, and Jake continue to show their bond has remained unbreakable over the last few years and even Kevin and Emmett found time to have a big brother to little brother talk.
Jada and Dre’s friendship showed its true colors as Jada gave Dre advice about how to make a marriage work. Early on, Kiesha’s friend came over and provide viewers the downside of Kiesha’s actions. The fast girls she ran with were there just to spread rumors and didn’t truly have her back like Kiesha expected them to.
With new characters popping up almost weekly, it was a great episode as The Chi took the audience back to its original core members. Ronnie made his appearance at the end of the episode and may have provided light for what his character is to face moving forward.
Nothing happened outside of the apartment. No scenes of Dom, Tiffany, Trig, or even the Mayor race. While the onus was on the mental health of Kiesha, The Chi gave us what we’ve been waiting for since the start of Season 3. A trip back home.
