The Crow: Will This Reboot Ever Get Off The Ground?

The Crow Movie

When it comes to movie reboots, it seems so easy to just throw a dart at a board and land on a movie that you can remake with ease. However, the reboot of the 1994 favorite, The Crow, the 1994 film has hit almost every snag along the way. There have been multiple actors and directors tied to the reproduction and no one can seem to get the project into production. As someone who absolutely loves the original movie, it’s easy to understand why they’re struggling to get it right. With such a great story, this could easily be a franchise film, yet it can’t seem to get out of the planning phase.

From Google:

The night before his wedding, musician Eric Draven (Brandon Lee) and his fiancée are brutally murdered by members of a violent inner-city gang. On the anniversary of their death, Eric rises from the grave and assumes the gothic mantle of the Crow, a supernatural avenger. Everyone from Bradley Cooper to Jason Momoa, and now Bill Skarsgard has been rumored to or been actually cast as the lead in the reboot. Unfortunately, nothing has ever come of it. Now as the movie has Skarsgard cast, will it actually happen and can it live up to the original cult classic?

One of the greatest things about The Crow is it seemed to have it all. It was a love story with action. It was a comedy with explosions. Tragedy and redemption filled 102 minutes of the story all while having a pretty solid soundtrack. But tragedy is also the reason this production may be hitting so many snags. Brandon Lee, who played the lead in the original was killed in a freak prop accident. As a rising actor at the time, for him to die while making the original, it’s safe to say those who remake this project want to honor his connection to the role.

It can’t just be one of those money-grab kinds of remakes. They have to go in with heart, passion, and respect for his original work. The Crow itself was based on a comic book that has gone on to sell 100s of thousands of books so even then the movie has big shoes to fill. No matter who plays the lead role, there’s plenty of pressure to get his movie done, and done right.
