The Mandalorian: Looking Past the Skywalker Saga (Trailer)
Star Wars is back! Even though it may have never truly left there’s something special brewing here in the coming weeks. Two full weeks from today The Mandalorian will kick off Disney+ and their long list of streaming content. With animated series along the way and the box office draws of the Skywalker saga coming to an end it was time for the Star Wars universe to find a next big thing.
The Mandalorian is an upcoming American space western web television series scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on November 12, 2019. Set in the Star Wars universe, the series will take place five years after the events of Return of the Jedi and follows a Mandalorian bounty hunter beyond the reaches of the New Republic.

One of the few disappointments with the last set of trilogies in the Star Wars movies was how out of place it felt with the rest of the Skywalker stories. Rogue One was a good bridge from prequel to original trilogy, Solo fell flat to some, critics complained The Force Awakens was too similar to the original, and fans petitioned The Last Jedi to be removed from cannon. If every there was a time Disney needed something to entice fans back in it was now.
Set five years after the Return of the Jedi is another interesting choice. The Mandalorian is another bridge-the-gap story between two sets of trilogies. With 30 years gone by between The Force Awakens and Return of the Jedi, it leaves a large gap for plenty of stories to be told. Whether or not The Mandalorian will be able to tell a large enough story to fill some gaps or whether it will be a small piece of a larger puzzle is yet to be determined. With production of season 2 supposedly underway, we know it simply won’t be a one-and-done teaser. Can it be the show that cements the Disney as the heavyweight streaming champ? Find out November 12th.
