The Office: How To Make A Reboot Work
Fans have been left with a tv shaped hole in their heart ever since The Office went off the air in 2013. Eight years have gone by and every single fan you talk to would be on board if they decided to give it another go. Some would even argue that it didn’t fully hit the full scope of it’s popularity until the show was winding down in the final seasons. It found a home on Netflix and gathered a hardcore following.
Even as it was winding down, it still left fans wanting more. It’s not as if there’s big production costs when it comes to the series so a fresh take should be easy. The majority of the show takes place in the office or in the area without big elaborate sets.
However, It would have to be a movie or limited series. Sorry, when it comes to the show every character and their story has run its course. They’ve done all that you can do in a series that could make it worthwhile. Even towards the end of the show, despite it still being funny, the stories didn’t have the strength as the first few seasons. However, if they do a soft reboot in a made-for-streaming movie or limited series, there’s still one big plot point they could explore, The Scranton Strangler.

Think about it. They teased that story throughout the series. They made you believe he was caught. Then Toby visited him in jail and they wanted to believe he tried to strangle him. However, with a little clever writing, that could easily be explained away setting up a 6-8 episode limited series arc where they finally reveal who it really is. After all, they can’t go back to working at Dunder Mifflin, it would be too weird as most of them had moved on. Plot twist, they all have to return to Scranton for the trial as it was someone they worked with.
Fans have come up with their theories along the way who the real Scranton Stranger is. They’ved named everyone on The Office from Robert California to Creed Bratton, to even Toby. Why not Gabe? True while everyone has their quirks about them, he’s the perfect candidate. He never had anyone’s respect while working for the company. Hee was treated so poorly by his boss. When things got out of control he could disappear to Florida. If there was anyone to hold a grudge it would be him. He’s shown his creepy side how he acted after things ended with Erin. He showed his violent side bursting into the men’s room to confront Andy. Something always seemed off about him.
There’s not much that NBC can do to bring back The Office for a full series reboot. Yet that doesn’t mean they can’t do anything. We’ve seen the reunion specials for shows before. Shows such as Friends, Harry Potter, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air did it but it wouldn’t be the same. Yes, a reunion special would be great after a limited series run. Bring back the cast, reveal that they have to come back for the trial and let’s get a limited series for a few more good laughs
