The Old Guard: Nile Is A Big Reason We Need A Sequel
As great as The Old Guard was on Netflix, the movie ended with a few questions left unanswered. While the shocking reveal at the end indeed set the stage for a sequel, it was what wasn’t said in the original that has me wondering if the writers missed something entirely. Ther storyline was extreme, in a good way but it was the story of Nile that changed the entire film and how part 2 will be so important.
The end credit scene provided a huge cliffhanger but it posed a different question.

When Nile first got with the team and she was awakened with the nightmare that involved Quynh, the team seemed concerned and most importantly, so did Andy. When Nile explained what she saw in the dream, I began to wonder what did that mean. By all accounts, the team was a bit confused as if no one has had that dream before. Is Nile somehow connected to Quynh and her past?
But most importantly, who is Nile?
Was this her first trip through the immortal portal or is that what the writers want us to believe? If so, then as she once asked “why her”? What’s so important about Nile that she was given this assignment? We can see that if Andy was to ever fully lose her immortality that Nile would be the likely choice take over that mantle as the leader. But it also begs the question of how long does every other member has left on their clock?
If they were to all begin to succumb to the wounds like Andy was in the original film then what does that mean going forward? Will it be a part 3 where Nile has her own crew? That means new recruits that she will have to mold, train, and explain things to. Something tells me that there is plenty more to Nile’s story than what we were given in the first movie.
While the sequel may be about the revenge of Quynh, it’s really the story of Nile that will be the most important storyline in the film. For some reason, the writers didn’t focus on Nile enough. There has to be a reason they left out important details regarding her past and if she’s somehow connected to Quynh and possibly Andy.
