The Rookie: One Of The Worst Season Finales Ever On Television
Maybe we as fans are spoiled. Perhaps, we just expect too much from a show we’ve given our time to. The Rookie concluded their Season 4 with a finale that has to rank up there with one of the worse ever in TV history. What was the purpose of the finale if it left fans saying “there must be an episode next week”?
That was the thought after I watched “Day In The Hole“. I immediately went to Youtube to look for next week’s preview only to be left with my mouth wide open in disbelief as I learned that it was indeed the Season 4 finale. Where was the cliffhanger? Where was the scene or scenes that made me want to come back in a few months for a continued storyline to pick up?
We received none of that. Are we supposed to wait till next fall just to see if Lucy and Tim will become a couple? With Nyla giving up her role as TO and returning back as a detective, is that enough to keep us waiting? The big showdown in the desert with Nolan was great but there was no real season finale resolution there either.
Nolans’s brother Pete made an appearance but I think that was more of a publicity thing since his involvement with Kim Kardashian. His presence had very little to do with the finale as he was found on the side of the road in the desert. This finale felt forced as if the writers for The Rookie just took an early vacation.

Fans are happy about the possibility of a Lucy and Tim romance but that was left on the backburner as well. They’re set to go undercover but the details of such are scarce. A kiss is supposed to bring fans back? What happened to the whole PTSD storyline with SGT Grey after he was shot? What happened to the Rosalind and Nolan chemistry that’s been missing for the past two seasons?
The Niecy Nash spinoff lasted 2 episodes and that had more excitement than the remaining episodes of The Rookie. Too many storylines were left on the cutting room floor and while the writers may be looking to tie things up in Season 5, viewers are left looking for answers.
A season finale is supposed to get the viewers excited for the next season but all this finale did was offer a glimpse that it may be time to end The Rookie.
