The Rookie: Season 5 Should End The Fun and Games

The Rookie

I’ve discussed this numerous times in posts and in groups. I’m shocked that The Rookie took so long to bring back what is easily their best villain on the show. With Season 5 promos finally here, it was revealed that Rosalind Dryer would become a central figure in the upcoming season. And that is such a good thing. It’s time for The Rookie to take a drastic turn from all the fun and games.

For the past 4 seasons, The Rookie has focused on all its characters. From John Nolan to the kidnapping of Angela to the death of Jackson. But now, we’re attached to who we like and it’s time for the writers to spread their creative wings. I’m not saying the show is bad, I still love it but when we were first introduced to Rosalind, it sparked something in me.

I wanted to know more about her backstory and history with Detective Armstrong. But most of all, I wanted to see the relationship between Rosalind and Nolan blossom into something more. Nothing romantic, but more of a cat and mouse game that The Rookie was lacking.

I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed with the Season 4 finale as nothing was really resolved because all the storylines were going nowhere. Nolan is a new relationship. Tim and Lucy are going undercover as a couple and by the time their relationship reaches the climax, we may already be tired of their union. Nyla is pregnant, Wesley was being blackmailed and while that had legs, it died off just as quickly as it came.

Now, we enter that vital stage for all Primetime Shows. 5 seasons is nothing to scoff at but this is the make-or-break season for The Rookie.

The success they’ve achieved cannot be ignored. But this show has turned its back on what can make it great. Where is the drama? It was the same with Castle. Too much trying to pair Kate and Castle together that they didn’t pay too much attention to other storylines. Bringing Rosalind back in the fold is great. It places the main storyline back on Nolan where it belongs.

Season 5 doesn’t have to go completely off the deep end but it should add more suspense. This is a cop show. Rosalind is a psychopath who’s looking to have fun. According to the promo, everyone’s life is a stake. No one should be off-limits here. That’s what makes good shows great.

The first 4 seasons have been filled with laughter, relationships, and one big blooper reel on what not to do as a cop. Now it’s time to show their audience what happens when you do get t right. It’s time to raise the stakes. time to show them that there is a real threat that not everyone can make it home. And when they do make it home, they’re still not safe. That’s what adding Rosalind back to the show should do.
