The Rookie: Will Season 3 Bring A Real Storyline?
For the first two seasons of The Rookie, it’s been mostly centered around three rookie cops finding their way around Los Angeles, their peers, and adjusting to a new life. But what’s been missing has been that great story arc each great show has provided their viewers. Could Season 3 of The Rookie be where it all comes together?
Season 2 ended on a note which would suggest this is the direction the writers will be taking us. However, it could all be smoke and mirrors as well. Nolan finally learned that his good friend and fellow cop, Nick was dirty. Upon learning this, Nick managed to set up Nolan that made it seem as if he was the dirty one.
Nolan will be arrested but how long before the truth comes out? Will the writers wrap up this storyline quickly or will they drag it out the entire season?
The reason dragging it out will pay huge dividends for the show is there are many other factors in play here. Nick’s deception cost a cop his life. That’s payback for Jackson as they were Academy friends. It also cost another cop her life as Nick shot and killed her before the truth could fully come out. Now, with Nick possibly on the run and knowing all the inner-workings of a manhunt, this could be a great storyline of Cat and Mouse.

Then we have the most intriguing part of The Rookie and where they can take this storyline. In Season 2, we were introduced to a character named Rosalind who was sent to prison for being a serial killer. A typical case, right? Well, not so fast. Come to find out. She and Nick share a pretty sketchy history. During her time on the run, Rosalind insists that Nick set her up and we would learn that she was telling the truth.
But that one episode did not end her story. Knowing that Nolan and Nick are friends, Rosalind tried to warn Nolan about Nick. She even went as far as to tell him where he hid his secrets.
If they want to drag this storyline out, they could accomplish that with Nolan forging a better relationship with Rosalind that will help him in the process of bringing down Nick.
This is the moment fans of The Rookie have been waiting on. If done right, they could take this show to new heights. Although the focus will be on the Nolan vs Nick story, they could still throw in the weekly criminal and the often not so funny jokes that have made The Rookie a standout show.
Even with all the jokes and random weekly criminals mixed with cat rescues, Season 3 has a chance to change the landscape of The Rookie forever.
