The Tennessee Titans Were A Perfect Fit For Ryann Tannehill

Titans QB Ryan Tannehill formerly of the Miami Dolphins

When it comes to Ryan Tannehill, as a Titans fan you have to be ecstatic. If you’re a Miami Dolphins fan, however, you’re in one of two categories. As a fan, you’re either in the category that respected the fact he gave everything to the team but was under-coached for the majority of his career. It’s either that or you’re in the category where you’re bitter he wasn’t the winner he was drafted to be in Miami and hate to see his success elsewhere.

Luckily for the Titans, it doesn’t matter which category you fall into. While Miami was able to move Tannehill for low round picks, Tennessee is the one who won that trade. Initially, Ryan Tannehill was only supposed to serve as injury insurance for once-promising quarterback Marcus Mariota.

When Mariota continued to struggle after working his way back from injury, Tannehill was inserted into the lineup and was an instant upgrade. While Derrick Henry was running all over the field, the veteran quarterback had to do just enough to not lose the game.

This year is a different story however. Not only is Henry still running all over teams, but Ryan Tannehill is playing complimentary football to balance their game out. Neither the passing or run game has to rely on the other too much. Tennessee is playing a more well-rounded and balanced game and a lot has to do with the improvement at quarterback.

Look, no one is saying Tannehill has reached that future Hall of Famer level just yet, if ever. If you’re a Titans fan, you don’t care as long as he keeps winning. One thing is abundantly clear though, the Titans were a much better fit. You can’t blame it all on him though.

Tennessee was building a winner when he stepped under center. The Dolphins selected Tannehill as a top 10 pick knowing he was going to be the starter on a bad football team. As with all bad teams, they had talent around him, but too little for him to develop.

If he was the one sitting behind Fitzpatrick and learning the speed of the game, the first few years of his career would have been a little different. Even as a member of the Miami Dolphins he played like a winner, but didn’t have the talent as a QB or talent around him yet to win.

The Titans however have one of the best running backs in the game to balance their offense, the receivers to make plays, and a defense that can keep teams in check. He might not be your favorite quarterback in the league, but you have to respect Ryan Tannehill for keeping his head down and turning around an under-appreciated NFL career.
