The Time Traveler’s Wife Deserves A Season 2

The Time Traveler's Wife Wedding Episode

Although it is based on a book of the same name, The Time Traveler’s Wife on HBO leaves plenty to be desired should they decide to go through with more seasons. With the season 1 finale airing on Sunday night, no word has been announced whether or not HBO plans to bring it back for a second season. Despite only being six episodes in the first season, they painted a picture well enough to leave audiences wanting more. Should HBO go forward, there are some key stories they can connect:

More The Time Traveler’s Wife: A Tale Of Love and Loss

First, there’s so much more they can expand on with Clare’s struggles in the past, present, and future. Throughout season 1 we see just how much Henry has picked Clare up after some difficult times and at the same time has been Henry’s compass. While we see glimpses of Clare at a younger age, her story spans for years before catching up to her future husband. There were 152 times when the two met in the past and there’s no way we could’ve possibly seen every one of them. How much more have these two shaped past versions of themselves?

Then of course there’s the story that popped up at the end of season 1. What if the present is Clare struggling with childbirth. That story didn’t just pop up at the end of the season out of nowhere and that was that. That’s no way to end a show. They have every intention of telling more of the story. Despite the challenges, a season two dealing with those situations gives a perfect opportunity for the story to come full circle. There was a tease in there as Henry was popping back and forth in time of a younger girl in a dress whose face we couldn’t see. Was it a young Clare or a glimpse into his future? All great relationships find a way to overcome hardships and that could be the biggest test of their love.

Finally, the story is called The Time Traveler’s Wife for a reason. Even if something were to happen to Henry, that’s not to say Clare’s story can’t go on. Say Clare and Henry do have a child, and as alluded to, that child can also travel through time. If they write it creatively we could see Clare struggle with the same fears and challenges as a young Henry’s mother. Even as she’s been through it all before, the audience should be able to reach past Henry into Clare’s future and just how much she needed him to guide her through the struggles. Beyond that, Henry can shuffle through time in the past, present, and future, there’s no saying that a version of himself can’t be around even after he himself is gone.

So much of The Time Traveler’s Wife is left open for interpretation, but most of it will make for great storylines in the future. Season 2 needs to happen, but longer. They can expand to 10 episodes as most of their content does. Whatever they do HBO and The Time Traveler’s Wife has left us wanting more of Clare and Henry.
